Everyone deserves dignity and respect when signing their important documents. No matter who you are or where I meet you, you will be respected and served with professionalism.
The notarization process:
I will keep a record of the specific document(s) you are having notarized, the government photo ID you provide to verify your identity, and the same for any witness(es) if applicable. I will witness you signing your document(s) and stamp your document(s) with my notary commission.
If you have requested that I print your document(s) for you, I will bring it with me to the signing for you to keep.
-
In Washington State you must provide valid state or federal government issued photo identification.
The ID must contain the signer’s photograph, signature, and physical description.
Acceptable forms of ID include:
Driver’s License: Any U.S. state-issued license
Washington State Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL)/ID card
Passport: U.S. or foreign
Military ID Card
Permanent Resident Card (Green Card)
Government-issued Tribal ID
Other Government IDs: Federal or state-issued photo ID
Key Considerations
Expiration Date: The ID must be current or have expired within the last 3 years.
Name Match: The name on the identification must match the name on the document being notarized.
Personal Appearance: The signer must appear in person before the notary.
No ID? If a signer lacks proper ID, they may be identified by the oath of a credible witness whom the notary knows, or who has their own proper ID.
-
The rate window when the appointment ends is the rate that will be charged. For example, if the appointment begins at 8:45 PM (Standard Rate), and ends at 9:15 (Night Rate), the Night Rate surcharge will apply.
-
For safety, during nighttime hours, I may request that we meet at a nearby public location such as a cafe or store that will be open. (Such request will not result in an increased zone surcharge.)
For your safety, you may choose to select a public location for our appointment. It should be someplace that is open at the time of the appointment.
-
I am bonded and insured.
I have a Notary Public Commission from the State of Washington Department of Licensing.
-
I am not an attorney, so I cannot advise you on substantive matters beyond how to fill out your name and contact information for the purpose of providing notarization service.
Your document should have a specific space for the Notary to provide their Notary stamp/seal. If your document does not have this, please ask the agency/company requesting this notarization what type of “Notary Certificate” is appropriate for the document. I can provide a pre-printed certificate, but you must tell me which type to provide. By law, as a Notary Public, I cannot select a specific certificate on your behalf.
-
I cannot bring a witness to our notarization appointment.
If you are having difficulty finding a witness (or two) for your signing needs, please contact me via phone, text, or email, and I will attempt to assist.
-
Witnesses only provide verification that the primary person signing the document is who they say they are, and that the signature is being provided wililngly and without coercion. The witnesses are not party to the agreement (contract) and bear no financial or other liability for the terms of the document signed.
In the event that the document is part of a future court case, witnesses may be called to testify regarding the signature authenticity.
-
I can notarize foreign-language documents in Washington, but I must be able to communicate directly enough in English with the signer to verify identity, willingness, and awareness. I cannot rely on another person or phone translation apps for the notarization itself.
-
I am committed to providing notary services for everyone possible regardless of disability.
If you are deaf or hard-of-hearing, we can conduct our appointment via texting or an ASL interpreter that you provide. Preferably the interpreter is a neutral third party so as not to have a conflict of interest regarding the matter of the document to be notarized.
If you are blind or have low vision I can verify your understanding of the document to be signed and help facilitate your signature or mark in the proper place or places, or I can facilitate a signing by proxy if you provide someone to be your signing proxy.
I will provide as much support for sensory, cognitive/intellectual, and communication access needs as I can. If I can prepare to meet your communication needs in a certain way, tell me how best to meet your needs in your Appointment Request questionnaire.
